Optech CZMIL Mobilizes for Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts
In November, the U.S. Government's Joint Airborne Lidar Bathymetry Technical Center of Expertise (JALBTCX) mobilized the Optech CZMIL Coastal Zone Mapping and Imaging Lidar to assist in post-Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. For two weeks, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) flew the system from its base in New Haven, Connecticut to map the New Jersey coast line, the Long Island shoreline, New York's inner harbor, Sandy Hook, Staten Island and the East River.
Philippines DREAM Program
The Philippine Government, via the University of the Philippines, has taken delivery of multiple lidar and camera systems—Optech Pegasus, Gemini and Aquarius ALTMs with aerial digital cameras. As part of the data acquisition platform, they will feed precise, high-resolution elevation data and imagery into the Disaster Risk and Exposure Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM) program, which is mandated to use spatial information to support disaster mitigation efforts. The DREAM program will make this flood hazard information available for early warning, spatial planning, infrastructure intervention and related purposes. The DREAM program is under Project NOAH, which will make the data publicly accessible.
